About MultiSearch

What is MultiSearch?

  • MultiSearch is intended to assist you with your research by letting you simultaneously search a combination of library databases.
  • From the QuickSearch box on the library's home page MultiSearch retrieves results from Academic Search Complete, Proquest, JSTOR, Sage Journals, the Gale Virtual Reference Library, as well as GLOCAT and WorldCat.
  • Using the MultiSearch Advanced Search page, you can individually select the databases you want searched or you can choose a broad category of databases to be searched. Advanced Search also gives you options to limit your search by field, dates and full text only.

Why should I use MultiSearch?

Milne Library subscribes to over 100 research databases containing a huge number of journal and newspaper articles, e-books, encyclopedias, music, artwork, reports, and much more. Generally, search engines like Google or Yahoo will NOT provide access to these resources. In the past you had to search each library resource individually to find the information you wanted. MultiSearch saves you time and effort by allowing you to enter your request just once and then providing you with summary results from a variety of resources.

When should you use MultiSearch?

  • At the beginning of your research to see where useful information may be found
  • You want to save the time and energy of searching several databases individually
  • You need to find a detail that you know exists, but don't know where to look
  • You want to scan the literature to see what is out there

When should you NOT use MultiSearch?

  • You need to perform precise searches for specific types of documents
  • You need to use the special search options of specific databases
  • The information you want is available in one specific database
