About Worldcat Local

What is Worldcat Local?

WorldCat Local includes the books, videos, audios and other materials available in Milne Library, those held in libraries around the world, and over 55 million article citations from the following databases:

  • NLM Medline (medicine and health)
  • ERIC (education)
  • GPO (U.S. government publications)
  • ArticleFirst and British Library (multidisciplinary sources)
  • MLA (language and literature)
  • GeoRef (geosciences)
  • Philosopher's Index
  • RILM (music literature)

This variety of resources makes WorldCat Local a great place to begin researching many topics.

While WorldCat Local presents a simple user interface, users can adjust their own search preferences, utilize an advanced search interface, and easily refine their searches using faceted categories. Options include searching Milne Library or Libraries worldwide, selecting databases to search, and refining search results by author, format, year, content, audience, language and topic.

The availability of books in Milne Library will be reflected in the display. Links are provided in search results which allow users to obtain online materials or to request (using Get Text and IDS services) those items not immediately available.

Other features that users will value include export of bibliographic citations, emailing of records, creating and saving of lists, and the ability to comment of specific items. NOTE: To save titles to lists you must first create a WorldCat account and then use your personalized WorldCat User Name and Password (not your Geneseo ones) to sign-in when prompted.

Additional information regarding WorldCat can be found on their help screen or by asking a Milne Librarian.
