Financial assistance is available for a library school student to attend the annual SUNY Librarians Association (SUNYLA) conference at SUNY Geneseo from June 14 – 16, 2006. The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage involvement with SUNYLA and SUNY Libraries, as well as to provide professional growth opportunities to those entering the profession.

The Scholarship is a voucher covering:
• Travel (maximum $ 350) and lodging costs
• Registration fees
• Conference meals

You qualify if:
• You are currently enrolled in a New York State ALA accredited MLS program or its equivalent.

To apply:
Please write an essay of no more than 600 words on one of the following topics:

• Libraries must respond to change more quickly than ever in today’s environment of rapidly-evolving technologies, which presents them with unique challenges. How were you able to creatively overcome a unique challenge (in any setting) and what personal strengths do you feel are important to such problem solving?

• Today’s digital world presents us all with ever-increasing options for entertainment; this is particularly true of children and young adults. How can we in the library community rise to this challenge to foster and encourage an interest in reading in our younger generations?

• It is more important than ever that libraries respond to the needs of the populations that we serve in order to remain a vital part of those communities. What kind of impacts can libraries have on our campus, local and national communities?
