Daniel Ferdinand Kissane

Following a lunch-time game of basketball, Dan Kissane passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack. He is missed by his colleagues at SUNY Oneonta, where he worked as a Reference/Instruction Librarian, as well as by the many librarians who knew him through the SUNY Librarians Association, the American Library Association and other professional groups of which he was an active and valued member. Dan had a rebel spirit. His quick wit and offbeat humor permeated his life, relationships, and passions: sports, teaching, writing, and endless conversation and discussion. He was his own person and once you met him, you did not forget him. As a librarian at Oneonta, Dan excelled at teaching. Dan's genuineness and lack of affectation made him an educator to whom students could easily relate. The influence he had on his students will be a lasting part of his legacy. Dan received a B.A. in English Literature from Sonoma State University, a secondary school teaching certificate from Eastern Oregon State College, an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University, and an M.A. in Educational Technology from McNeese State University. However, Dan's highest degree was his humanity and unique personality.* |
