Finding primary sources on topics relating to the Cold War can be challenging because research databases are flawed. They attempt to describe a full-length book with 20 words on a database screen, and there's bound to be a gap between what a book covers and what the database screen says it covers.
Finding Articles from History Journals (Secondary Sources)
Finding articles from scholarly history journals is challenging when your topic is very narrow. Sometimes you cannot find enough articles on your narrow topic and must broaden your searching to include articles that may devote some but not much space to your topic. We do not have online or print access to many of the specialized journals you will need for this research project, so expect to wait up to a week for articles from our interlibrary loan system, called IDS.
The New York Times newspaper is an excellent source for articles. Milne Library has the New York Times newspapers on microfilm from 1851 to the present. The New York Times Article Archive is a database that will be helpful to find out about articles, although the database charges you money to read the articles, so it makes more sense to use the microfilm once you have identified pertinent articles.
TheReaders' Guide Retrospective is the online database version of the Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature. There are no full text articles in the database but we own some of these articles in print, others will have to be obtained via IDS. Use the Library Web Page to find out if we own the publication you need.
