Cite My Sources and Use Style Guides: Anthropology/Archeology

Anthropology Guides

Anthropology professors will often require you to use Chicago Manual of Style Author-Date format for your in-text citations and references. CMS Author-Date is the official citation format for The American Anthropological Association. This format can be located in the The Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.)–just note that this format is different than Chicago Notes-Bibliography style (i.e., footnotes).

In your archeology courses, you may be asked to use the American Antiquity guidelines for citation.

Anthropology

The American Anthropological Association uses the Chicago Manual of Style Author-Date format for its citations. It will be common for your Anthropology professor to ask you to format your references in CMS Author-Date. Note: CMS Author-Date is different than CMS Footnotes/Endnotes.
