Accessible Textbooks/Title II Compliance
In light of the Title II DOJ ruling, Milne Library would like to proactively assist faculty in obtaining accessible versions of course textbooks by offering information and guidance.
Using SUNY Incremental Funds, the Library has the opportunity to purchase accessible versions of course textbooks and required course texts ahead of the April 2026 deadline.
Milne Library will be ordering electronic versions of texts currently on Course Reserve, starting in the fall 2025 semester. Please be aware that not all textbooks have been published as ebooks so faculty will have to work with the Office of Accessibility to make an accessible version available to students.
Faculty can expect to receive an email with more information about which texts have been purchased as ebooks and which texts will require faculty consultation with the Office of Accessibility.
If you would like book(s) to be available to students as ebooks, which are not currently on Course Reserve, please submit a purchase request to the Library, and follow these steps:
1. Select “Electronic Book” in the “Format” section of the Purchase Request Form.
2. Select “Yes” to the question “Is this text required to meet an Accessibility need?” on the Purchase Request Form.
After submitting a purchase request, faculty can expect an email from Milne Library with a stable link for the purchased ebook or notice that an ebook was not available and the Library recommends that the requestor contact the Office of Accessibility.
Please note that ebooks are not placed on Course Reserve like a print book. Faculty can embed the direct link to the ebook in their syllabus or BrightSpace.

Library accessibility guidelines and policies will reflect those of the College and the wider community. These guidelines will also adhere to the College principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion since disability awareness and accessibility are important components of these.
Books and Physical Materials
- Faculty, Staff, and Departments who wish to purchase an accessible text for their classes or student(s) must fill out a Purchase Request Form.
- Members of the College community can request books and other materials in the circulating collection using the library catalog (GLOCAT). Materials will be made available for pick up at the Service Desk in the Main Floor of Milne Library.
Websites, Online Courses, and Electronic Resources
- Brightspace SensusAccess allows students, faculty, staff, and alumni to automatically convert Brightspace Course documents into a range of alternate media including audio books (MP3 and DAISY), e-books (EPUB, EPUB3 and Mobi), digital Braille, digital large-print, and BeeLine Reader.
- The Library’s websites and applications are routinely scanned to verify web accessibility. Accessibility issues are communicated to stakeholders, and mitigated by appropriate methods.
- When licensing a new resource from a third-party vendor, the Library requests the vendor to supply a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT).
Research Help and Instruction
- Closed captioning for online meetings and transcripts for chats can be provided.
- If a participant requires accommodations for equal participation in Library consultation appointments and/or instruction sessions, the Library will coordinate with the Office of Accessibility Services.

Assistive Technology and Accessibility Workstations
Assistive Technology Room
Location: 2nd Floor (Main), Room 216
The first of its kind for Geneseo's library, the Assistive Technology Room is a dual- purpose room that can be used as a private space for dictation, as well as for accessibility needs. Priority must be given to patrons with accessibility needs.
This room includes:
- Fast PC workstation with top-of-the-line processing power and memory
- FUSION software: JAWS text-to-speech screen-reader and ZoomText screen magnifier
- DRAGON speech-to-text dictation software
- Headphones and thumbwheel mouse (ideal for patrons with limited hand mobility), available at the CIT HelpDesk for use with DRAGON and other software
- Motorized adjustable height desk
- Bariatric ergonomic adjustable chair
- Table and chairs for support persons or guests
Public Accessibility Workstation 
Location: 2nd Floor (Main), Computer Lab area
This workstation features:
- Fast PC with top-of-the-line processing power and memory
- FUSION software: JAWS text-to-speech screen-reader and ZoomText screen magnifier
- Motorized adjustable height desk
- Bariatric ergonomic adjustable chair
- Public or student usage. Priority must be given to patrons with accessibility needs.
Accessories
- Microphones, headphones, thumbwheel mouse and digital voice recorders are available for loan at the CIT HelpDesk on the Main Floor of Milne Library. View CIT HelpDesk list and policies for technology available for loan.
- Earbuds are available for use. Members of the College community can request disposable earbuds by visiting the Service Desk in the Main Floor of Milne Library.
