Black Humanities: The 1619 Project, A New Origin Story: Getting Started

The course HUMN 222 explores American history through The New York Times challenge, which argues that the origins of the United States date back to 1619, when the first enslaved Africans arrived from Angola. Nikole Hannah-Jones, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, claims that much of what defines America’s exceptionalism stems from slavery (About the course, Syllabus).
