Black Humanities: The 1619 Project, A New Origin Story: Getting Started

The course HUMN 222 aims to look at American history from a different perspective, by taking on The New York Times challenge. This challenge considers the possibility that the origin of the United States can be traced back to 1619, which marks the arrival of the first enslaved Africans from Angola. According to Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, out of slavery grew nearly everything that has truly made America exceptional (About the course, Syllabus, Fall 2023).
