PLSC 120: Comparative Politics: Finding International Websites

In the United States, it is common for website domain extensions to end in .com, .edu, .gov and many others. Each country outside of the United States has its own domain extension, which you will want to incorporate into your Google search. 

You limit to international websites in a Google search by adding the operator "site:" and adding a domain extension. For example, the search "site:.MX government" will result in government websites from Mexico.

This link will provide you with many international domain extensions; note that not every country may have one and that certain countries, like China, limit outside access to their websites.

You will find that many International websites will be written in their native language, which will likely mean they need to be translated. You can quickly translate a website using Google Translate by copying and pasting the international URL. If you use Chrome as your web browser, it may offer to translate the website for you. Note: Google Translate only translates text, so any images will not translate. Also, the translation is will not be 100% accurate.
