On page 570 of this article, there is a graph showing that men are over-cited and women are under-cited in over 270,000 papers published between 2009 and 2018 in the top five neuroscience journals. A study conducted in 2020 by Dani Bassett, a physicist at the University of Pennsylvania, revealed that while the number of papers with women listed as the first and last authors was slowly increasing over time, the citation gap was actually growing wider.
