School Librarian

The school librarian is one of the first people you should introduce yourself to!

The school librarian:

  • interacts with every student, teacher, and administrator, so they have a good pulse on the school.
  • is a certified educator, just like you.
  • follows its own curriculum
  • follows a fixed schedule (like an elementary school special [art, music, PE]) or a flex schedule (typically secondary level, based on outreach and collaborative teaching like academic librarians).
  • can help you:
    • incorporate information literacy skills in a collaborative lesson.
    • select physical and digital materials, such as books and websites, to incorporate into your teaching.
    • prepare book carts for students to browse for research projects.
    • purchase/borrow multiple copies of a single title for literature circles or whole-class reading programs.
    • encourage positive independent reading experiences by showcasing new or interesting books in the library collection.
    • become more familiar with instructional technology and digital citizenship skills.
